History and objectives
Founded in 1919 and located in Brno, the capital of the historical region of Moravia, Masaryk University (MU) strives to fuse excellent teaching with top research. In the past decade, MU has been the most successful university in the Czech Republic in attracting European investment funding which enabled the birth of several important state-of-the-art facilities and research centres mainly in the university´s new campus, inaugurated in 2010, e.g. the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX), the Centre of Experimental, Systematic and Ecological Biology (CESEB) and the Laboratory for Experimental Research in Religion (LEVYNA) attracting elite researchers and students from all over the world who contribute in a decisive manner to the international aspect of the city.
The campus of the Faculty of Arts is located near the historic city centre and is easily accessible by public transport.
